Mending Friendships

I spent the weekend trying to mend old friendships and it was a bit more taxing than I thought.
For some of them I decided it was way to much effort for the friendship and for some others I decided to continue trying.

Horacio, for example, is one of those friends that I could do with out but we stay in touch because we have known each other for so long.

Then there is "Hawk", who I have known longer than Horacio and we may temporarily loose touch with each other but when we do see each other it is as if we had never lost touch.

There is also Miguel, who I see by accident once every year or so but every time we see each other we have so much fun.

I could go on but basically all of them fall in those three categories. Some are worth saving, others are just holding on by a frail string.

I have to say, I'm pretty terrible about returning phone calls. But I always love my friends, I'm just bad a returning calls. I do know what your talking about Sarah though. I have a couple girl friends that always say, "we should hang out", but I know they are just saying that for show. There is no intention for us to ever really "hang out" anymore. It's weird how people are. That's why I'm very glad for the friends of mine that I have that are close to me. Even if we may not talk regularly, or even hang out regularly, there are a select few that I know they will be there for me no matter what. In good times and in bad. And I think that's what counts. I've pretty much stopped putting forth effort with those that I could do without. It sounds mean, or crappy. But if they aren't putting forth an effort to hang out with me, or be my friend, then why am I trying? Know what I mean?

Friendships are just hard work and most people are not willing to put the effort. After a while, if I feel I am making all of the effort then I just give up, I have way to many other friends to try to make one friendship work. I know it sounds bad, but it is true.

Sarah, unfortunately the problem you have with your girlfriends happens to all us. I have going through the same thing with one of my friends right now.

Let's be honest here. Most people suck. It's hard to find good friends. And I mean the really good ones! All the others are just people to keep you from being bored.

hmmm, i like this post. for some reason. anyway, friendships, ive always thought, are hard to maintain. and that comes when people expect too much (ive been to blame for this). or maybe not expect enough. either way, i think its easy to tell when you have found good people. i tell you, the best friends i think ive had, are those that i can just sit with and not say much at all. still, you know they would be up for anything. as simple or complicated as it may be.

but its true, most people do suck.

Hey, I kinda like this site too. My 'best' friend and I are JUST LIKE .. mommys'. Do we by chance have the SAME friend :? Just so happens I e-mailed my friend tonight and let her know I thought our friendship was like the hanging chad from Gore/Bush! I am of mind to believe that since - middle school - this is the end of our road. By the way... to some of the others...people don't REALLY "suck". .... most things about people are +/- .... and that's good!
