Phone Etiquette

Why do people pick up the phone when they can't talk and say "I'll call you right back."?

Why not let the call go to voice mail?

That's a good point. My mom does that, and it is irritating. I agree. Wouldn't it be more effective if they just sent you into vm instead of answering? Besides, what if you had something important to say, and could have left a message, but now you can't?

I agree, in most instances. If my mom calls I pretty much have to answer it just to tell her I'm busy. If it goes to voice mail she automatically assumes something is wrong. Makes me long for the good ol' days when we didn't have cell phones and weren't expected to be constantly available.

I agree, don't pick up the phone and let me leave you a message.

You know what else bugs me? When people call and don't leave a message and then expect you to call them back. If you call me and don't leave a message I am going to assume you didn't want anything or that you had the wrong number.
